However, when Matthias saw how Celeste greeted the man, he felt that they seemed to know each other.
“He’s Beck Harper.”
“Beck?” Matthias was surprised. “Aren’t you two not that close? How did you both end up at the same table?”
“His niece fell into the pool just now, and I saved her. He brought her over to thank me,” Celeste explained.
Matthias nodded. “I see.”
Celeste told Beck that she was with her colleagues. Beck assumed the person who had greeted her earlier was just one of them, so he didn’t turn around to check.
After Celeste and Matthias walked a little further away, Beck glanced back and noticed a tall young man walking beside Celeste. From the way he looked from behind, he seemed like a good match for her. Beck could tell they had a close relationship, walking comfortably side by side.
“Uncle Beck…”
Shanice’s voice brought him back. “Are you done eating? Let’s head back to our room.”
“Okay,” Shanice replied.
Beck had finished his meal earlier, so he put down his napkin and returned to the room with Shanice.
Celeste, on the other hand, went back to her room to read on the balcony. Just then, her phone rang. It was Trevor.
Usually, he only called when there was something important. After a brief pause, Celeste answered coldly, “Hello?”
“Grandma asked us to go home for dinner tomorrow night,” Trevor said.
Celeste paused, then replied, “Okay.”
Before she could say anything further, Trevor hung up. Celeste felt indifferent. She put away her phone, calmed herself, and continued reading.
That night, Celeste slept well and woke up early the next morning. She went to the resort’s gym for a jog. After resting for a while, she decided to soak in the hot spring pool again.
Soon, a woman in her forties or fifties approached Celeste, holding Shanice.
Celeste recognized her from the previous day. She seemed to be Shanice’s nanny, employed by the Harper family. The nanny had been distracted yesterday and hadn’t noticed Shanice wandering near the pool. Without Celeste, the situation could have been dangerous.
The nanny thanked Celeste profusely. “You’re welcome,” Celeste replied softly.
Shanice didn’t seem afraid of the pool anymore. Beck had probably helped her overcome her fear. She held the nanny’s hand with one hand and clutched her swimming ring with the other. After dipping her foot in the pool, she slowly waded in. Moments later, she paddled toward Celeste.
“Ms. Rodriguez…” Shanice called softly.
“Yes?” Celeste replied. Shanice didn’t speak further but seemed happy, kicking her legs and splashing around.
The nanny smiled. “Shanice really likes you.”
Celeste returned the smile but said nothing. She had another team-building activity to attend.
Before leaving, she greeted Shanice again. The little girl opened her arms.
“Ms. Rodriguez, hug!”
Celeste chuckled and lifted her from the pool. After changing into a dry bathrobe, she carried Shanice to the elevator, planning to part ways once they reached her floor.
As they waited, Beck approached.
“Uncle Beck!” Shanice exclaimed joyfully.
Beck reached out, and Shanice hesitated, not wanting to let go of Celeste completely. She extended one arm toward Beck, and he carefully took her. Her other hand remained on Celeste’s bathrobe, accidentally tugging it open.
For a brief moment, Beck caught a glimpse of Celeste’s blue lace lingerie under the robe. Celeste’s fair skin, the gentle curves of her chest, and her slender waist were all on display, leaving a striking impression.
